In South Australia we are blessed with some of the best wine regions in the world, including the spectacular Mclaren Vale. Wirra Wirra was born in the heart of Mclaren Vale thanks to a mischievous gentleman by the name of Robert Strangways Wigley (RSW).
Stealing a horse drawn pie cart and taking it on a joy ride through the streets of Adelaide was the final straw for the family of Robert Strangways Wigley (RSW). The former state cricketer and noted scallywag had caused one too many controversies for the Wigley family, and he was gifted 240 acres of land in McLaren Vale to get him out of the city. It was on this land in 1894 that he established Wirra Wirra and the rest, as they say, is history.
